Part of The Official Visitor Site for Northumberland

Northumberland is a striking county - stunning coastline, castles, landscape, history and heritage.
Dig a little deeper and you'll find a unique and distinctive place - both physically and spiritually. Set between England and Scotland, its people are fiercely proud with an identity and character that infuses the art, the products, the food, the music and the voice.
We have set out on a journey to discover, unearth and celebrate the treasures of Northumberland.
By treasures we mean the wonderful food and drink, the art, craft and artisans, the music, the culture – the essence of Northumberland.
Made in Northumberland is about the hidden gems, the great finds, and the discoveries that make Northumberland special. We have been out and found all of this and we just had to share it. Some of it is great, some of it different, some is idiosyncratic and eccentric, but all of it rich and unique and always with a story to tell!
The food is of the landscape: rich, plentiful and untouched
A visit to Northumberland must include . . . seeking out the wonderful seasonal food: lobster, oysters, mussels, salmon, sea trout, venison, hill lamb, beef, game birds, poultry, heritage potatoes, asparagus, strawberries, real ale, mead, rum . . . need we go on. Discovering the pubs, restaurants, shops, markets and sellers, eating the freshest and the best . . . great food, well-cooked makes a great trip into a fabulous one.
The artists, makers and artisans of Northumberland react and respond to the landscape, the environment and the sense of place. It's a creative response to a unique environment reflecting the beauty, the history and the culture. Many artists and makers open their studios allowing you to understand and enjoy the art by seeing it in the context of the place it was created and talking to the artist. Such an experience offers a unique opportunity to take home a real piece of Northumberland.
Northumberland has its own distinctive sound. It is a song made up of the voices of the people, the curlews on the moors and hills, the sounds of the sea - and of course its music. The Northumbrian Pipes and the music of the area sing of the history, the hardship and the joy of the people and the land. Sometimes atmospheric, plaintive and evocative, sometimes celebratory, merry and fun, but always mesmerising. Do not miss an opportunity to see a live performance here. You will experience a fascinating and occasionally sublime insight into the people and the place.

‘Made in Northumberland’ celebrates the very best of Northumberland.
